Y Ty commune is located west of Bat Xat District, about 100km from Lao Cai Town. Y Ty is dubbed “foggy land” with gorgeous terraced fields and the most beautiful earth walled houses in Lao Cai. There are Hani Villages, Dan Sang and Y Ty cardamom protected forests. Over a century ago, the French military kept watch on the Chinese border praising the beauty of the Y Ty plateau, 2000m-high and therefore 400m higher than Sapa.

What will you experience

Visit the local women in their traditional custom look like the gypsies. There are only a few thousand Hani left, less than 10 villages, the majority of whom live in China. Hani houses are made of thick adobe walls with small openings and thatched roofs. A few kilometres before the village of Y Ty, the road goes through a big forest producing cardamom. This spice, is highly prized by the Chinese, and has become the mountain minority’s most important source of income for over the last decade.

You can also see on the way an old hydro-electric power station which was built in the early 20th century by French. After crossing the village, we’ll arrive to a beautiful waterfall which is a good place for refreshing and taking pictures. At the end of the tour, you will return back to Sapa by foot.
