Focus your ethnic interest at a specific location in Vietnam. You’ll be able to glue your senses to the culture and customs of local ethnic groups at their villages. DAY 1: ARRIVE IN HANOI (-/-/D)

At 17:15 PM, be picked up to catch the Water Puppet Show (art form unique to Northern Vietnam) and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture. A welcome dinner will then be served in one of the best local restaurants at 18:30 PM. Overnight stay in Hanoi.

DAY 2: HANOI CITY TOUR (B/L/D)

At 9:00 AM, be picked up from your hotel to start a Hanoi City Tour. We will take you to visit the most famous places in Hanoi: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (simple cottage where President Ho lived and worked), One Pillar Pagoda (oldest pagoda in Hanoi), Tran Vu Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. After lunch at a local restaurant, we visit the Ethnology Museum for an overview of Vietnam’s 54 distinct ethnicities. Then we will pass by Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake. You’ll have a great experience by cyclo to discover the little corners of the Old Quarter. Overnight stay in Hanoi.

DAY 3: HANOI – MAI CHAU (B/L/D)

08:30 AM is pick up at your hotel for the drive to Mai Chau Valley, you’ll pass through mountainous landscape on the way.
Check in to a stilt house in Lac Village, the home of a Thai Ethnic Minority Group and have lunch at the house. You can wander around the houses and see the daily life of the local people. They specialize in weaving brocade products, and are happy to show visitors their skills. Then you have free time to shop for brocade products and a dinner will be served by the householder. You’ll enjoy a dance performance by the White Thai Minority People. You’ll spend the night in the stilt house at Lac Village.

DAY 4: MAI CHAU – HANOI (B/L/D)

Enjoy breakfast with a local family at 08:00 AM. Walk to visit Mai Chau Market and catch a glimpse of the local life and culture of the Thai people. Continue walking to Van Village – the village nearby the mountain with good atmosphere surrounding around, and then back to the Lac Village for lunch. After lunch, you’ll be driven to Hoa Binh for a brief visit to Hoa Binh Hydro Electricity. At 14:00 PM, return to Hanoi for your refreshment before spending your night on the train to Lao Cai.

DAY 5: LAO CAI – SAPA (B/L/D)

At 05:15 – 06:30 AM, arrive at Lao Cai Station and have breakfast at a local restaurant. After breakfast, you’ll visit a market frequented by ethnic minority peoples. Although it’s quite a long drive, the landscape is attractive and the ethnic markets are a fascinating experience. There will be plenty of colour and authentic costumes, but very little to buy as souvenirs unless you want to barter for a water buffalo or a sack of fertilizer! After lunch, you’ll drive to Sapa, a scenic mountain area with high peaks, rivers, valleys and hillside terraces. The villages are traditional and typically tucked away at the bottom of the hill slopes. Most of the villagers wear traditional costumes. You are free to explore and spend the night in Sapa.

DAY 6: SAPA – LAO CAI (B/L/D)

After your breakfast, leave Hue for Hoi An. On the way, take panoramic photos at the top of the Hai Van Pass or the ‘Pass of Ocean and Clouds’ and then visit the Cham Museum and Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village in Danang City. Continue to Hoi An for the afternoon to enjoy a walking tour at the Japanese Covered Bridge, Phung Hung Ancient House, Phuc Kien Assembly Hall and Chua Ong Pagoda. There is an afternoon peaceful boat ride along the Thu Bon River to Thanh Ha Ceramic Village that allows you to take a deeper look at ceramic techniques and compare products between the North and Center of Vietnam. Last, but not least, is at your leisure to explore Cua Dai Beach. Overnight hotel stay in Hoi An.

DAY 7: SAPA TO HANOI

08:00 – 08:30 AM is breakfast at your hotel. Then you’ll hike down a scenic valley to explore the H’mong Ethnic Minority Villages on the way. Next, take a jeep and drive to Lao Chai Village – the village of Black H’mong People. After a picnic lunch, you’ll take the jeep to visit Ta Van Village – the village of Day People and then visit Red Dao Ethnic Minority People of Giang Ta Chai Village. At 15:00 PM, return to Sapa to refresh at a local hotel before being escorted to Lao Cai Station. Enjoy a solo dinner and then spend the night on an overnight sleeper train back to Hanoi.

DAY 8: HANOI DEPARTURE

The car will take you to the local hotel for refreshment and free time for shopping at some of the local markets before being driven to the airport for your international departure flight.
